Update: The San Francisco 49ers officially announced the signing of tight end Levine Toilolo to a one-year deal, which was first reported by Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. The team waived safety Cameron Glenn to make room on the roster.
Toilolo (6-8, 268) spent his first five NFL seasons with the Atlanta Falcons, including the two seasons when 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan was the offensive coordinator with the team.
San Francisco already has one of the league's best tight ends in
George Kittle and added Kaden Smith out of Stanford via the draft. The team also has veteran Garrett Celek.
The Falcons made Toilolo a fourth-round selection out of Stanford in 2013. He registered 21 receptions for 263 yards with a touchdown through 16 games and 10 starts with the Detroit Lions in 2018. Toilolo has caught 95 passes for 986 yards with eight touchdowns through his six NFL seasons.
Toilolo was the highest-graded pass blocker (87.0 grade) among tight ends while hauling in 21 of his 24 targets with no drops last season, according to Pro Football Focus.
The 49ers initially signed Glenn as an undrafted free agent out of Wake Forest University on May 3.

Why one analyst is worried for Brock Purdy if 49ers trade Brandon Aiyuk
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy achieved a remarkable feat in 2023, setting a single-season franchise record with 4,280 passing yards. This accomplishment is noteworthy, considering the illustrious quarterbacks who have graced the organization's history.
A significant portion of those yards came from wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk, who amassed a career-high and team-leading 1,342 receiving yards. Most of his 75 catches originated from passes thrown by Purdy.
Amidst significant offseason chatter surrounding the 49ers' star receiver, including several unsubstantiated trade rumors, Aiyuk's future remains uncertain. Former NFL player James Jones, now an analyst, expressed concern for Purdy should Aiyuk's tenure in the Bay Area come to an end.

George Kittle's message to Brandon Aiyuk amid contract talks with 49ers: "Be patient"
George Kittle made his sentiments clear in a recent conversation about his teammate, wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk. The tight end emphasized that he couldn't picture the San Francisco 49ers without Aiyuk and spoke highly of him in a discussion with Fox News Digital's Scott Thompson.
Throughout the offseason, Kittle has had several conversations with Aiyuk and empathizes with his situation. Reflecting on his own contract negotiation in 2020 before reaching an agreement with the 49ers, Kittle offered his best advice to Aiyuk: "Hey, be patient."
Kittle added, "It's just kind of the way the Niners do things. I didn't
