ESPN analyst Mel Kiper released his second mock draft on Tuesday, and nothing has changed for the San Francisco 49ers, who are currently slated to select with the No. 31 overall pick. Of course, that could change by the time the Niners' time to pick comes around. The team does not currently own another selection until the fifth round and could trade down to acquire more picks.

For now, the 49ers sit at No. 31, and Kiper still has them selecting former LSU safety Grant Delpit.

"Team needs will change, obviously, as free agency sorts itself out," writes Kiper, "but these are my 1-32 predictions for every team as it stands right now, using a combination of my Big Board rankings, how I see each team's needs and which positions could be upgraded."

As for the Delpit to 49ers selection itself, Kiper wrote the following:

"As I mentioned last month, the 49ers have to get this pick right because they don't have another selection until the fifth round. No pressure, general manager John Lynch and coach Kyle Shanahan. Delpit struggled through an ankle injury last season and needs work as a tackler, but I'm betting on his upside as an athletic, versatile safety. The Niners could lose Jimmie Ward in free agency, and Delpit would help fill that void. Wide receiver is also an interesting position to keep an eye on for San Francisco, which could let free-agent Emmanuel Sanderswalk and replace him with a playmaker from a super-deep class."

Delpit finished his collegiate career with 199 tackles, 17.5 for a loss, seven sacks, eight interceptions, 24 passes defensed, two forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries. His best season came during his 2018 sophomore year when he racked up 74 tackles, 9.5 for a loss, five sacks, five interceptions, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery.

ESPN's Mel Kiper, Jr. grades the 49ers draft

By Marc Adams
Apr 28

Mel Kiper, Jr., of ESPN, has covered the NFL Draft for decades. Each year, he hands out his draft grades after the draft is over, grading each team on how well they performed, in his estimation. There were a couple of moments in the 2024 draft in which Kiper said the San Francisco 49ers reached for a player. I expected Kiper's opinion of the 49ers' draft to be lower than the B- he gave them. But a B-, while it isn't great, isn't terrible either. You can't genuinely grade a draft before the class has a chance to play even one game. It takes time to see what each player will do. That

Early ESPN 2025 mock draft projects 49ers bolstering defense

By David Bonilla

Last week, ESPN analyst Jordan Reid unveiled an early look at the 2025 NFL Draft, presenting one of the first mock drafts for next year's event. At first glance, San Francisco 49ers fans might be excited to see their favorite team selecting at the No. 32 overall pick, signaling a projected Super Bowl victory. However, Reid notes that the draft order was based on Super Bowl odds from ESPN BET, with San Francisco currently holding the best odds (+500). Reid also acknowledges that he hasn't extensively evaluated the prospects expected to be part of next year's draft class, stating, "This is super early. I

Report: 49ers keeping 'in touch' with free agent safety Jamal Adams

By David Bonilla
Apr 29

Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times reports that the Seattle Seahawks remain interested in reuniting with free agent safety Jamal Adams. He adds another name to the list of teams considering Adams for the upcoming season—the San Francisco 49ers. "Sources said the San Francisco 49ers are among other teams who have kept in touch with Adams, so the Seahawks could have some competition for the former All-Pro safety, who is still just 28 years old," wrote Condotta. The New York Jets drafted Adams (6-1, 213) out of LSU with the No. 6 overall pick in 2017. He registered 48 tackles, including seven for a loss, two

By David Bonilla
Apr 27

The 2024 NFL Draft has concluded, leaving the San Francisco 49ers with a draft class consisting of eight players—five on defense and three on offense. The coaching staff has shifted its focus to integrating these new additions into their plans for the upcoming season. Concurrently, media experts are delivering their annual assessments, grading each NFL team's latest batch of rookies. Grading players who have yet to play a single NFL snap might seem premature, especially at this early stage of the offseason. Nevertheless, it serves to evaluate how each team addressed its perceived pre-draft needs. Outlined below are the grades assigned by notable analysts and writers in the media and what they had to say about the 49ers' 2024 draft class. Each grade is
