It turns out, the San Francisco 49ers were pursuing Ndamukong Suh before the defensive end decided to re-join the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on a one-year deal worth $8 million.

"This was no easy task for the Bucs," Ian Rapoport reported on NFL Network Wednesday. "They had several teams who wanted Suh's services, including the 49ers, and including the Baltimore Ravens."

Suh, 33, is a five-time Pro Bowl selection and three-time first-team All-Pro. He joined the Buccaneers last offseason after a season with the Los Angeles Rams, three with the Miami Dolphins, and five with the Detroit Lions.

The Lions made Suh the No. 2 overall selection in 2010 after playing college football at Nebraska. He registered 41 tackles, 2.5 sacks, and four passes defensed through 16 starts with the Buccaneers last season.

The 49ers locked up defensive end Arik Armstead for the foreseeable future by signing him to a five-year deal. In doing so, however, the team felt compelled to trade defensive tackle DeForest Buckner to the Indianapolis Colts. There, he immediately signed the massive long-term contract that San Francisco couldn't provide.

H/t to Patrick Tulini for finding the report.

To say there was a lot of speculation surrounding San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk heading into the 2024 NFL Draft would be an understatement. In the end, Aiyuk remained on the 49ers' roster once the draft concluded, indicating a likelihood of him staying with the team at least through the upcoming season. San Francisco remains committed to negotiating a long-term deal for the fifth-year wideout. Last week, Ian Rapoport joined NFL Network and was asked for an update on the Aiyuk situation. The

By David Bonilla
May 13

Pro Football Focus senior analyst John Kosko recently scrutinized every NFL team, pinpointing which roster possesses the best group at each position. Kosko also singled out the worst position groups in the league, and fortunately for the San Francisco 49ers, they were not represented in any of those categories. The 49ers were spotlighted by two position groups on the list, with Kosko asserting that the Bay Area team boasts the best tight end and linebacker groups in the NFL. One might wonder if the team's wide receiver group, consisting of Brandon Aiyuk, Deebo Samuel, Jauan Jennings, and now rookie Ricky Pearsall, made the list. However, that
