Report: 49ers ‘most likely option’ is to play home games in Arizona

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports that the Arizona Cardinals have offered their home field, State Farm Stadium, to the San Francisco 49ers for the at least two home games they will be unable to play at Levi's Stadium. New COVID-19-related restrictions in Santa Clara County will go into effect on Monday. They will prevent the 49ers from playing their next two home games — a December 7 matchup against the Buffalo Bills and a December 13 game against the Washington Football Team — in the area.

There is no conflict when it comes to the 49ers' and Cardinals' schedules. Arizona hosts the Los Angeles Rams on December 6 and is out of town the next week.

If necessary, the 49ers could play their last home game of the season — against the Seattle Seahawks — in Arizona. The Cardinals are out of town that weekend too.

Santa Clara County is banning all collegiate and professional contact sports and requiring a 14-day quarantine for anyone traveling into the area from over 150 miles away. It also means that the 49ers will be unable to practice at their facility, which neighbors Levi's Stadium. The restrictions are expected to be in effect for three weeks.

Rapoport calls the use of State Farm Stadium the "most likely option" for the 49ers to play their next two home games. He also notes that there are options in the area for the Niners to set up a temporary practice facility.

"Their NFC West rivals -- who actually host the Niners in Week 16 -- are said to be willing to accommodate them," wrote Rapoport. "The league would like the 49ers to play in an NFL stadium if possible. Another option is for the 49ers to play at a stadium in Texas."

The 49ers are in Los Angeles today to play the Rams and return home tonight before the restrictions go into effect. A decision will need to be made before mid-week when the team is scheduled to begin practicing for its home game against the Bills.

49ers' five most difficult games in 2024

By Marc Adams

Which 2024 game will be the most difficult for the San Francisco 49ers? There are a few to choose from. The NFL schedule-makers did the 49ers no favors. They will travel more air miles than most teams and have the worst rest disadvantage in the league at -21. That means they have multiple games in which the other team is coming off a bye or a mini-bye. Even when the 49ers seem to have an advantage because they're coming off a mini-bye, their next game is against a team returning from their bye week. The Baltimore Ravens, on the other hand, have the best rest advantage in the league (+16). Last week I highlighted the 49ers' top five non-divisional games. Those are the most important

It's already confirmed that the San Francisco 49ers will kick off their 2024 regular season at home against the New York Jets on "Monday Night Football." However, that Week 1 matchup won't be the only time head coach Kyle Shanahan's team takes the spotlight on Monday night. Joe Buck disclosed on "Good Morning America" that ESPN and ABC have scheduled a second matchup featuring the Niners. When discussing additional matchups beyond the debut game, Buck mentioned, "We know that we also have the Cowboys twice, and we've got the Chiefs twice. We've got the Bills twice. We've got another date with the

Do you want to see the 49ers play holiday games again?

By David Bonilla
May 12

Last season was frustrating for anyone covering the San Francisco 49ers, as it meant missing out on family activities due to the team playing games on Thanksgiving night and Christmas night. Although the Christmas night game was less burdensome because most family activities were done by then. Additionally, the team played on New Year's Eve, although it was a morning game, making it less of an issue. However, for fans, it must have been enjoyable to mix holiday activities, such as stuffing your face with turkey, with watching a 49ers game. The 2024 NFL schedule is expected to be released this week. While the date has yet to be officially announced, reports point to a potential
