49ers DT D.J. Jones Eyes Super Bowl After Injury Robbed Him of Chance In 2019

D.J. Jones is set to cash in this offseason. The fourth year player out of Ole' Miss has played phenomenal this season and is very likely going to be amongst the most sought after interior defensive linemen in free agency this off season. With a hefty payday merely a formality at this point, the defensive tackle has his eyes set on an opportunity that eluded him during the 49ers Super Bowl run of 2019. A win Sunday over their NFC West rivals the Los Angeles Rams would give Jones the chance to play on the game's biggest stage.

Jones went on season ending IR with a high ankle sprain after the 49ers thrilling 48 - 46 win over the New Orleans Saints in Week 14 of the 2019 season. Jones had emerged as the starter opposite then 49er DeForest Buckner on the interior coming out of the 2019 training camp. Due to the late season injury Jones could only watch as his teammates came within minutes of hoisting the Lombardi Trophy.

With the 49ers failing to make the playoffs last year, this post season is the first of Jones' career and he is taking full advantage of it. In the 49ers two playoff games so far this season, he has consistently gotten in the opposing teams backfield, racking up five tackles, one for loss, and a sack. Jones looks to keep up his game-wrecking play Sunday night against the Rams.

In Week 18 vs the Rams, Jones had one of the five 49er sacks of Rams QB Matthew Stafford. Jones also played a pivotal role in holding the Rams to a mere 64 yards rushing on 27 attempts. Jones knows that his play will be an integral part of the 49ers getting back to the Super Bowl.

Aside from his amazing blend of quickness and sheer strength, Jones's best quality may be his unselfish attitude. Jones called fellow defensive lineman Arik Armstead "the most important player on the team" after Armstead made the midseason switch to the interior next to Jones from his long standing position as defensive end. The two have dominated opposing offenses since the move was made.

For Jones the praise of Armstead is definitely sincere, however from what he has shown all season, he knows that his play will be just as important as he hopes to get the chance that he missed out on to bring the Lombardi Trophy back to the bay.

49ers' Dre Greenlaw on whether Super Bowl practice fields led to injury, rehab status

By David Bonilla
May 9

Dre Greenlaw initially thought someone had stepped on his foot as he returned to the football field during Super Bowl 58. The idea that he had suffered a severe injury didn't cross his mind. Even after he made his way onto the sideline, the San Francisco 49ers' star linebacker didn't anticipate exiting the game permanently. It wasn't until he started trying to put pressure on his foot that he realized more was going on with the injury. Further tests confirmed what the training staff suspected: Greenlaw had torn his Achilles. His absence was a blow for the San Francisco 49ers, who had to continue the game without him. Ultimately, the 49ers lost Super Bowl 58 to the Kansas City Chiefs in overtime, a devastating defeat for Greenlaw, who watched from the sidelines as

Why 49ers' Trent Williams sees last season as a success despite Super Bowl loss

By David Bonilla
May 9

San Francisco 49ers tackle Trent Williams has had ample time to reflect on the Super Bowl 58 defeat in Las Vegas. Looking back on his 2023 campaign, he refuses to label the season a failure, instead focusing on the positives of his team's valiant effort. "That's the biggest loss you can take, but at the end of the day, you look at it for what it is," Williams said on "The Shop" podcast, according to Tristi Rodriguez of NBC Sports Bay Area. "I'm a realist. There were two teams left out of 32 teams. Two teams fighting for that one trophy. Yeah, it sucks, but you got to look back and say, at the end of the day, it was a successful season. I used to think,

Bucky Brooks explains why 49ers drafting Ricky Pearsall was a reaction to Super Bowl loss

By David Bonilla
May 11

NFL Network's Bucky Brooks believes Ricky Pearsall will open up opportunities for head coach Kyle Shanahan. He suggests that drafting the rookie was a response to the San Francisco 49ers' Super Bowl 58 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. During the "NFL Fantasy Football Show," Brooks stated that the rookie wide receiver will address some issues the 49ers offense faced against man coverage. "I think it's a direct reaction to the Super Bowl," Brooks declared. Confidently entering the game, the 49ers believed they had a solid game plan for the Chiefs, who had previously defeated them in the Super Bowl only four years

49ers LB Dre Greenlaw reflects on how his presence might have impacted the Super Bowl

By David Bonilla
May 12

Dre Greenlaw believes he is making significant progress on his road to recovery from the torn Achilles he sustained in the second quarter of the Super Bowl. "It's coming along," Greenlaw shared last week with NBC Sports Bay Area. "It's a long, slow process that you just kind of gotta be ready for every day to wake up and attack whatever it is that I'm trying to work on. And for me, that's, right now, just the strength and the mobility, just trying to get good range of motion in it." Greenlaw isn't predicting a potential date for his return to the football field. He aims to rejoin his teammates early in the upcoming season but will be wise with his recovery. The linebacker has no
