Fred Warner and
Dre Greenlaw are arguably the best linebacker duo in the NFL, serving as the heart of the San Francisco 49ers defense while sharing a strong bond. Therefore, it's no surprise that Warner felt deeply for his teammate and friend when Greenlaw suffered a torn Achilles in the second quarter of Super Bowl 58 against the Kansas City Chiefs.
The following video captures Warner's raw emotional response after Greenlaw was carted off the field, revealing the profound anguish experienced by the star linebacker, even as teammate
Nick Bosa attempted to console him.
After the game, tight end
George Kittle shared his thoughts on Greenlaw's injury, saying, "
That's depressing to get injured in the Super Bowl. ... Dre's the heartbeat of our defense, him and Fred in there, and how they feed off each other. ... We lose a guy like Dre, it's tough. He's just such a fantastic football player, and he's everything that the Niners stand for. So to lose him, it just really, really sucks for him."
While speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Warner provided insight into Greenlaw's mental state in the aftermath of the injury and Super Bowl defeat.
"
Obviously, he's down, but he has a good mindset about it, and he's just eager to get the surgery done so he can get right into rehab and get back to work," Warner said. "I have no doubt in my mind he'll come back better than he was. He's made of the right stuff, and, yeah, he'll be back."
San Francisco
lost the game 25-22 in overtime.

49ers' Dre Greenlaw on whether Super Bowl practice fields led to injury, rehab status
Dre Greenlaw initially thought someone had stepped on his foot as he returned to the football field during Super Bowl 58. The idea that he had suffered a severe injury didn't cross his mind. Even after he made his way onto the sideline, the San Francisco 49ers' star linebacker didn't anticipate exiting the game permanently.
It wasn't until he started trying to put pressure on his foot that he realized more was going on with the injury. Further tests confirmed what the training staff suspected: Greenlaw had torn his Achilles. His absence was a blow for the San Francisco 49ers, who had to continue the game without him.
Ultimately, the 49ers lost Super Bowl 58 to the Kansas City Chiefs in overtime, a devastating defeat for Greenlaw, who watched from the sidelines as
Ian Rapoport sends clear message regarding 49ers' Brandon Aiyuk and Deebo Samuel
One thing is clear: Ian Rapoport expects Brandon Aiyuk and Deebo Samuel to be on the San Francisco 49ers roster when the team takes the field in Week 1 of the 2024 season. At this point, most probably feel that way. The fact that both stayed with the team throughout the draft clearly signals that general manager John Lynch and head coach Kyle Shanahan intend to retain their two talented receivers—at least for one more season.
"Week 1 of 2024, it looks like they both will be [on the roster]," Rapoport told guest host Tom Pelissero on "The Rich Eisen Show."
However, nothing in the NFL is ever certain.
"Now, look, crazy things can happen," Rapoport continued. "Someone loses a star receiver, they decide to give the 49ers something of value for this

49ers were impressed by this Renardo Green performance
The New York Giants made wide receiver Malik Nabers the No. 6 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. Fifty-eight picks later, the San Francisco 49ers selected cornerback Renardo Green in the second round.
Green earned a career-high 86.4 coverage grade from Pro Football Focus last year, with opposing quarterbacks posting a mere 75.0 passer rating when targeting him. He kicked off the season with an impressive performance in Week 1, where he was tasked with containing Nabers and preventing him from taking over the game.
Nabers finished the contest with six receptions for 67 yards in a 45-24 loss to Florida State. Only two of those receptions for a total of 20 yards came from the five targets against Green, who also managed to secure an
