Christian McCaffrey may have hoped for the chance to play alongside his younger brother, Luke McCaffrey, with the San Francisco 49ers. Several mock drafts suggested that the former Rice wide receiver could join the Bay Area team.

"I would love to play with him one day," the older McCaffrey said in December. "That would be the coolest thing ever. So I'm excited for him and his journey, and he's only going to get better."

However, fate had different plans.

Luke did hear his name called on Day 2 of the 2024 NFL Draft, but not by the 49ers. Instead, the Washington Commanders selected him. Their draft is led by former 49ers assistant general manager Adam Peters. Shortly after the selection, Christian took to social media to extend his heartfelt congratulations to his younger brother.

"Couldn't be more proud of my brother [Luke]," Christian wrote. "What a story. Bet on yourself every step of the way. What a story."

In December, Christian had praised his brother, offering a scouting report for NFL teams.

"If I'm a scout, he's got every tool you need," Christian said. "He's fast, he's big, he's strong. He can play any position. [49ers RB coach] Bobby Turner always talks about the greatest compliment you can give someone is that they're a football player, and that's exactly what he is. Look at how many SportsCenter top catches or whatever he had."

Luke's stock likely rose at the NFL Scouting Combine, where he narrowly bested his older brother's 40-yard dash time, clocking in at 4.47 seconds. Seven years prior, Christian recorded a time of 4.48 seconds.

Luke amassed 71 receptions for 992 yards and 13 touchdowns this past season, per Sports Reference, averaging 14.2 yards per catch. Additionally, he carried the ball 15 times for 117 yards, averaging 7.8 yards per carry.

Did 49ers nearly reveal their hand before drafting Isaac Guerendo?

By David Bonilla
May 5

NFL insiders hear so much information about team interests leading up to the NFL Draft, making it challenging to discern fact from fiction—or smoke screens. A few weeks before the draft, Tony Pauline of Sportskeeda reported an intriguing tidbit about a former Louisville running back—the San Francisco 49ers were not just interested, but very interested. Pauline took to social media to share that, according to what he was hearing, the 49ers had a third-round grade on Isaac Guerendo and were considering drafting him if he was still available at the end of the second day of the draft. Shortly afterward, Pauline's social media post mysteriously

Bill Barnwell examines impact of 49ers drafting Ricky Pearsall on Brandon Aiyuk

By David Bonilla
May 8

The San Francisco 49ers' selection of wide receiver Ricky Pearsall with the No. 31 overall pick does not indicate an imminent departure for Brandon Aiyuk. Let's make that clear right now. The 49ers remain focused on signing their veteran wideout to a long-term deal. While ESPN's Bill Barnwell believes that Pearsall's selection could lead to the eventual parting ways with one of the 49ers' wide receivers, he points out another impact Aiyuk's former Arizona State teammate might have on his 2024 campaign. "Aiyuk might be delighted to link up with a former teammate, but in the short term, adding another first-round

49ers drafting Jarrett Kingston forces O-lineman to change allegiance

By David Bonilla
May 9

Jarrett Kingston was born in Anderson, a city in Northern California. However, his immediate family lives in Southern California, leading Kingston to become a fan of the Los Angeles Rams and USC Trojans, where he would eventually play his final collegiate football season. The San Francisco 49ers drafted Kingston in the sixth round, which has forced the offensive lineman to shift his NFL allegiance. He acknowledges that his family and friends in Anderson are thrilled about his opportunity with the Bay Area team. "I have a bunch of—pretty much all my high school buddies are all 49ers fans," Jarrett told reporters on Thursday. While smiling, he noted, "Now, I'm a huge 49ers fan." Reflecting on his past Rams fandom, Kingston explained,

Bucky Brooks explains why 49ers drafting Ricky Pearsall was a reaction to Super Bowl loss

By David Bonilla
May 11

NFL Network's Bucky Brooks believes Ricky Pearsall will open up opportunities for head coach Kyle Shanahan. He suggests that drafting the rookie was a response to the San Francisco 49ers' Super Bowl 58 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. During the "NFL Fantasy Football Show," Brooks stated that the rookie wide receiver will address some issues the 49ers offense faced against man coverage. "I think it's a direct reaction to the Super Bowl," Brooks declared. Confidently entering the game, the 49ers believed they had a solid game plan for the Chiefs, who had previously defeated them in the Super Bowl only four years
