One San Francisco 49ers fan took the rivalry with the Los Angeles Rams overseas after spotting head coach Sean McVay vacationing in Saint-Tropez, France.
Blake McCall shared a video on Instagram (h/t to the New York Post) showing McVay's reaction after McCall sent a bottle of champagne to the Rams coach's table. Naturally, the gift came with a little good-natured trolling from the 49ers fan.
McCall captioned the video: "Bought a bottle of champagne for @rams Head Coach @seanmcvayofficial to show my love for @49ers 😂"
Fortunately, McVay took the prank in stride. The Rams coach smiled, laughed, and even hugged McCall, showing there were no hard feelings over the playful jab.
Earlier this offseason, 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan insisted that the Rams specifically requested San Francisco as their opponent to avoid another takeover of SoFi Stadium by The Faithful—a scene that has become all too familiar in recent years.
When asked whether the Rams lobbied for the matchup, Shanahan replied, "I know for a fact they did, and that's what's so bothersome."
He added, "And I get that. That would suck to have to do silent cadence and have our home game at their stadium, so I get their ambitions, but they were rewarded that."
The rivalry could have even higher stakes this season. The Rams enter the year as the betting favorites to win Super Bowl LXI, which will be played on February 14, 2027, at their home venue, SoFi Stadium.
