Numerous NFL teams reportedly reached out to the San Francisco 49ers before and during the draft to inquire about the team's star wide receivers, Brandon Aiyuk and Deebo Samuel. Josina Anderson of CBS Sports reports that the New England Patriots were among the teams that had "preliminary trade discussions" about Samuel.

"In general, when teams explore potential transactions with other clubs, finding middle ground on compensation can be challenging," wrote Anderson. "There are always many considerable factors on why the price should possibly be one thing, or another."

Trade speculation quieted down leading up to the 49ers' selection at No. 31 overall. However, the team reignited chatter when they drafted wide receiver Ricky Pearsall, leading many to believe San Francisco might still be willing to part with one of their veteran wideouts.

Based on conversations with other teams, Michael Silver of the San Francisco Chronicle reported that the 49ers are now more likely to deal Samuel than Aiyuk as teams prepare for Day 2 of the 2024 NFL Draft.

"According to multiple front-office and coaching sources from teams that had been negotiating potential swaps with the 49ers, it's Samuel who is likely to be the odd man out," Silver wrote in a recent article. "A deal could come together before the start of Friday's second round, or perhaps when a trading partner is on the clock. The 49ers are believed to be seeking second- and third-round selections for Samuel, a first-team All-Pro in 2021."

Samuel had a career season in 2021, amassing an impressive 1,770 all-purpose yards and 14 total touchdowns, including 1,405 receiving yards. However, he has failed to surpass the 900-receiving-yard mark since, and his physical style of play raises questions about his long-term durability.

While many had hoped that trade speculation would dissipate after the draft's first round, it seems it will remain a significant storyline heading into Day 2.

Ian Rapoport sends clear message regarding 49ers' Brandon Aiyuk and Deebo Samuel

By David Bonilla
Apr 30

One thing is clear: Ian Rapoport expects Brandon Aiyuk and Deebo Samuel to be on the San Francisco 49ers roster when the team takes the field in Week 1 of the 2024 season. At this point, most probably feel that way. The fact that both stayed with the team throughout the draft clearly signals that general manager John Lynch and head coach Kyle Shanahan intend to retain their two talented receivers—at least for one more season. "Week 1 of 2024, it looks like they both will be [on the roster]," Rapoport told guest host Tom Pelissero on "The Rich Eisen Show." However, nothing in the NFL is ever certain. "Now, look, crazy things can happen," Rapoport continued. "Someone loses a star receiver, they decide to give the 49ers something of value for this

Albert Breer speculates on trade destinations for 49ers WR Deebo Samuel

By David Bonilla

The most likely scenario is that both Brandon Aiyuk and Deebo Samuel will be on the San Francisco 49ers roster come Week 1. Unless there are unforeseen financial constraints, trading either player doesn't seem sensible with the 2024 NFL Draft in the rearview mirror. The 49ers wouldn't easily replace either wide receiver's value at this point unless another team makes an enticing offer involving a player and a draft pick. Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated recently addressed fan questions, including whether Samuel might be traded and, if so, to which team. As he recently stated during an appearance on "The Herd," Breer noted that he initially leaned towards Aiyuk being the likelier

Mike Sando of The Athletic frequently taps into the insights of NFL executives across the league to gather intel and opinions on NFL developments, the latest being the 2024 NFL Draft. In his recent discussions with NFL executives about the San Francisco 49ers, the spotlight was on the wide receiver position. One unnamed NFL executive praised the 49ers' choice of wide receiver Ricky Pearsall with the No. 31 overall pick. "We loved that receiver," the executive told Sando. "The first round is probably a little high for him, but if they want the fifth-year option with him, fine." That's an interesting perspective that has yet to receive much attention regarding Pearsall's selection. First-round picks come with a team option for a fifth year, which

Rumors swirled around the statuses of San Francisco 49ers wide receivers Brandon Aiyuk and Deebo Samuel leading up to the 2024 NFL Draft.
