49ers keep three quarterbacks with no other team willing to meet asking price for backups, says John Lynch

There was some thought that the San Francisco 49ers might try to trade one of their backup quarterbacks, Nick Mullens or C.J. Beathard, and they did try. The only problem was that no one was willing to meet the 49ers' asking price.
General manager John Lynch told reporters via a conference call on Saturday that the 49ers had a lot of conversations with other teams about their quarterbacks, but San Francisco was unwilling to budge from their trade demands. Lynch, head coach Kyle Shanahan, and the 49ers will enter the season with both Mullens and Beathard behind starter Jimmy Garoppolo.

"In the last week, there was a lot of interest, a lot of conversations," Lynch said. "That position to us is one that you just set a price on, and you stay firm on it. While we had discussions, we never deviated from what that price was for us, and nobody ever met it, so we were happy to carry the three in.
"We believe that's a great position to be in a position of strength, and we feel from our starter from Jimmy on down to the other two that it is a great position of strength. Not that we weren't open to it, but a certain price had to be met, and it wasn't. So we go in happily with these three."
Lynch added that the decision on which quarterback will be Garoppolo's primary backup has already been made. Shanahan is waiting until Monday to inform Mullens and Beathard of his decision.
The 49ers reached the required 53-player limit by Saturday's 1 p.m. deadline.
