San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan spoke with reporters on Wednesday and provided an injury update before the team's first full practice of the week as it prepares for the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday.

Neither running back Tevin Coleman (ankle), defensive lineman Dee Ford (quad), tackle Joe Staley (leg), safety Jaquiski Tartt (toe), nor wide receivers Jalen Hurd (back) and Trent Taylor (foot) will practice on Wednesday.

Defensive back Jimmy Ward (hand) will be limited.

Tartt was a surprise addition to the list. Shanahan clarified that the safety's injury is "not turf toe," and he will be day-to-day this week.

Also day-to-day is Ford. Shanahan was asked about the level of concern the team has for its prized offseason acquisition. The coach confirmed that the injury is the same thing he dealt with during his time with the Kansas City Chiefs.

"For him to have the setback like he did after missing some of camp, there's always a concern, but he's day-to-day, had a chance to practice today," Shanahan said. "We're going to play it safe. We'll see here over the next two days, which makes me somewhat optimistic for the game. But we've got to play it day-by-day. It's something he's dealing with; feels better now than it did after the game on Sunday so, hopefully, that will continue."

The 49ers hope to have cornerback Jason Verrett on Sunday against the Steelers. He has been inactive for the team's first two games.

"We wanted to play it slow with Verrett," Shanahan said. "We knew he had a chance to really come here and compete, but he had a pretty bad injury the first week of camp, so he didn't get to do anything until Week 1. So really, the first two weeks wasn't much of an option for us. I know he really wanted to get out there last week, but we're trying to play it smart with him.

"I know he'll have a better chance to get up this week. That's something that we'll discuss. It won't all just have to do with him. It will have to do with the rest of the roster, and how we plan on attacking those guys."

According to Sports Illustrated contributor Noah Strackbein, who writes for "All Steelers" on the network, there's a level of confidence within the Pittsburgh Steelers organization that they can strike a deal for San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk—and at a bargain rate. "According to a team source, the Steelers and 49ers trade talks are real," Strackbein wrote. "While nothing is imminent, they 'would be surprised if it didn't happen.' But it all comes down to compensation, and Pittsburgh isn't willing to budge much on price." While it seems unlikely that the 49ers would part ways with Aiyuk for anything less than a first-round draft
